So how do you turn a traditionally staid business on its head and bring it kicking and screaming into the 21st century ?
Optometrists have a traditional brand image, I’d almost say they’re like the accountants of the optical world. Simon Rose at Rose Opticians was moving to new premises so we felt that his website should be rebuilt with this new image in mind.
Our approach was to get a great photographer that we work with to conduct the photography, in times of economic woes it’s easy to go down the stock route (and believe me we trawled through hundreds of optometry images) but the problem is that they’re just not “real”. Instead we got our good friend Steve Howse (www.stevestills.co.uk) to photograph Simon’s staff and family to give a really personal feel to his business.
We then called in a favour from our friends at YourThurrock (www.yourthurrock.com) and asked them to interview Simon about his business , the state of the optometry industry and his plans for his new shops and products and services in the future.
This approach really works well, Simon is great on camera and overall the site really helps to personalise the brand and the video approach gives a first hand, from-the-horses-mouth profile of the business, something that a stock image simply can’t !
Whats more the production values don’t need to be great or costly as its all about Simon getting his personality across and I think in this case this approach just works.
