Microsoft Desperation ?

Wow ! What is it about these ads that just make Microsoft come across as desperate ?
So the Seinfeld ads have been ditched (reputedly this was all part of the strategy all along - which you can either believe or not, personally the complete difference between the two styles its quite believable that this was the plan) but these new ads really aren’t great.
I think the issue lies with the fact that PC is a term that over here in the UK we tend to think of as “Politically Correct” or as Kev pointed out “Piece of C**p” so instantly the legions of talking heads are either doing the right thing or espousing their worst attributes. Once you get your head around this and the realisation they are assimilating themselves with a Windows based machine you can’t help but think of how Apple did it so much better.
We may be somewhat biased towards the Jobsian machines here at Pixelwork but boy these new ads just make me cringe. I’m also surprised at the creative (or lack of) from the agency - I wonder what the brainstorming process was….
“Hmm so Apple have these ads that mock us by saying I’m a Mac and I’m a PC and the PC is always dour looking and beaten down, lets just swing it the other way and have lots of people saying “Well I’m a PC and look I’m not like that at all...”
What a killer idea.
We can take that to the bank”.
Is that as good as it gets for a $300 million campaign ?
Take a look for yourself and let us know if you cringe too by the time you get to the last one….(and don’t want to kill everyone in the ad)…
I’m sure Apple will come up with a blinding response…How about the same principle but with random clumsy people dropping things, breaking things and falling over saying “I’m a PC” now that would be hilarious…
