Red Scarlet Camera

Forget Sony and Panasonic , this new beyond HD camera from Red looks awesome. Rather than calling it the HVX-9000 etc. etc. its simply called “Red Scarlet”. The looks and styling of the camera certainly owe more than a nod and a wink to Oakleys sunglasses because the founder of Red is no other than Jim Jannard, Oakleys Founder. He’s kept the same brand style running across into the cameras, a kind of industrial heavy duty look (the website has the same style rivets and brushed steel as Oakleys) and the product itself looks fantastic with specs that make the other cameras weep. Its 3K (3072×1728)for starters (check out what this means below) !

Expected in 2009 (sob, sob) this camera is expected to cost around the £1,500 mark !!
Here are the specs…
“The tiny 3K resolution camcorder is based on a 2 / 3-inch Mysterium X sensor, can shoot at 1 to 120 FPS and records to dual CompactFlash cards, which can handle up to 100MB per second of REDCODE RAW HD video (only editable at this time by Final Cut pro so this is a real workhorse camera). You can preview your shot on the 4.8-inch LCD, and there’s a 8x RED zoom lens included. HDMI, HD-SDI, FireWire 800 and USB 2.0 inputs are built in, and the device is compatible with “many” RED ONE accessories. WiFi control is also included.” - and it has still mode too!”

Looks great!
Though can it be used for stop-motion animation? Presumably it can if it shoots high res stills. If so, how stable is the digital iris frame-to-frame? And can the lenses be interchanged?
