Suspend all disbelief, laws of physics and wear some sunglasses to shield yourself from the maelstrom of colour the Wachowskis throw at you when you go and see Speed Racer.

If you’re a designer you’ll be blown away by the styling of the movie, mid 50’s retro meets the 70’s by way of a definitely non-dystopian futuristic colour palette. Where the Matrix was all blacks and washed out greys, Speed Racer is the complete opposite with every colour imaginable almost crammed onto the screen at any one time. 

The movie itself is like playing Super Mario Karts mixed with Wipeout in an SSX environment - on steroids ! It’s pretty obvious from this that the Wachowskis are big game fans, the movie plays out like a bunch of advancing levels on a computer game with the obligatory talking heads “cut-scenes” to set  the plot of the movie.

As for the plot, well it does its job but you’re not there for the plot you’re there for the visual storytelling and boy is it visual !
