Foam vs Pot

Foam vs Pot

There seem to be two schools of ads around at the moment those that are really “up themselves” and those that don’t take themselves too seriously and even take a dig at their counterparts.

A good example of this are these two ads , one for Sony cameras , due to air this week called “Foam City” , its a follow up to the previous Sony Bravia Ads with the balls, paint and bunnies (you know those ads that have all been referenced previously before either on the internet, the Letterman show or from Kozyndan illustrations). This time the product range being pushed are Sony’s digital cameras :

Kind of reminds me of the end of Ghostbusters when the Stay Puft marshmallow man explodes. But what does it say about Sony cameras , “Uhhmm they’re so good they’ll photograph foam”. Great where can I get one ?

There’s something about the beginning of the ad that reminded me of the footage of the Twin Towers falling on 9/11 and the way the dust cloud engulfed the streets of Manhattan, and the firemen hiding out inside shops, so not so good…It actually made me feel kind of sad, not the response Sony were after i’m sure. The music didn’t really help, neither did the fact that people don’t really seem to be enjoying themselves either. Pretty depressing actually.

Nice production values though - but the second ad has just as good production values, it mercilessly pastiches the Guinness ad (minus the carbon footprint for production) and is totally on brand for the product, has some really great touches along the way (the guy peeing in the lift) and has an ending that made me laugh out loud (when was the last time an ad did that ?).
