The Road

The Road

We’ve been developing a brand and website for Climate South East, and in the process learning as much as we can about Climate change from all the various authors and experts on the subject. Amidst the myriad of scientific texts, websites and journals on the subject one book has stood out amongst them all. Its not a dry lecture, or even a factual book (although it’s prescient view would be hard to argue) but instead a novel by the current darling of US literature Cormac McCarthy and it’s called “The Road”…British environmentalist George Monbiot summed it up in a comment in the Guardian….

“A few weeks ago I read what I believe is the most important environmental book ever written. It is not Silent SpringSmall Is Beautiful or even Walden. It contains no graphs, no tables, no facts, figures, warnings, predictions or even arguments. Nor does it carry a single dreary sentence, which, sadly, distinguishes it from most environmental literature. It is a novel, first published a year ago, and it will change the way you see the world.”

It’s quite simply the best book i’ve read in a long time, albeit emotionally draining and harrowing, it’s a staggering piece of work. With a film in production featuring none other than Michael K. Williams (Omar from ‘The Wire’) this is a book you simply have to read today !
