Nike +

Just out , this new Nike + wristband, i’ve never been much of an ipod person so the whole ipod / Nike thing never really did it for me but Nike just released this wristband that synchs to your nike transceiver in your shoe and displays speed, time distance and calories and then unplugs from the wristband so you plug the USB receiver into your mac and upload the data to the Nike + website. You can then pull off the data in a widget for your site. The concept is superb and i’m really looking forward to trying it out….
UPDATE : The kit arrived today, the branding is really nice, very slick black and red packaging and instructions, the whole kit hangs together really well. All you need to do is sync the transceiver with your receiver, do a test run of a mile to check the data is correct and then you’re ready to go ….first run coming online later..
UPDATE WED : Okay first run is online on the widget, the integration of hardware, widget and website is fantastic, not only do you get a view of your run but they also offer a series of training options for various distances which is superb for me as in the past I’ve always just run and ended up with an injury after a couple of weeks, this approach really controls your speed and eases you into the whole running thing.
There looks like a serious amount of planning, architecture and brains behind this, its one of the best uses of the internet, widgets and USB dongles i’ve seen and its potential with the likes of the iphone and heart rate monitoring is endless (although the website could do with a bit of a re-work, the fixed size Flash file is a bit limiting especially when it comes to the “map it” Google maps API plugin).
