Challenge
To take an already developed brand identity and build all of the marketing and communications collateral around this brand over the period of several years.
Solution
Our initial approach was to develop brand guidelines around the logo, from these we were then able to go to the production and development stage -the design of various items of printed collateral and allowing us to develop a website. We utilised Coldfusion for its ease of integration with Flash which enabled us to build a highly interactive Flash map. We also developed all the content for this map into overlays for Google Earth.
We also introduced to the Greengrid the idea of developing a mobile navigation application for users of the Greengrid, such that they could use a mobile phone or similar device to navigate and receive information about a specific location. Working with the guys at Someth;ng we developed a pilot demo version at Davy Down (just next door to our tower). This was also demo’ed to David Miliband , at the time the Minister for the Environment and todays Foreign Secretary.
Results
Our first site won the Macromedia Site of the Day (now Adobe), NASA won the day before, so we were in good company! The latest incarnation won the Creative East Award for “Best Web Design” 2007. Our work with the Greengrid has now been running for approximately 4 years and has included a number of spring-off campaigns, multiple print publications for reports, strategies and marketing materials, banner designs as well as video and motion graphics productions.
The site has grown to include Google Earth overlays, a dynamic Flash driven interactive map and a new community section allowing local users to register and contribute to the project space within the site and we are currently working to establish the Greengrid to fit more closely within the overall portfolio of the other Thames Gateway South Essex websites.
